“Here I am. . . a Too Much Woman, with my too-tender heart and my too-much emotions.” - Ev'Yan Whitney

The more I step further into my “woman-ness”, I worry that I am “too much” for this world. I believe women are such powerful, beautiful creatures in this fluid, bent, majestic body we grow fully into, and the more we navigate our curves and learn how to use our femininity as a force and not as a burden, the more the world is scared of us. And then we shrink ourselves to accommodate the world’s expectations of us—burned and battered by centuries of misuse and disrespect. But it can’t be our own fault for holding so much beauty and love and strength in this encased form. It can’t be a danger to others when we reach deeper into our fullness. It only becomes dangerous when we’re constricted from stepping out with pride and vigor because it is refusing a gift the world deserves.

This piece by Ev'Yan Whitney is so powerful in articulating what being “Too Much” of a woman means and she perfectly captures the constant oppositions of being all woman or not enough woman, while the world demands us to figure it out.
