A Classy Affair

Every now and then, I enjoy dressing up a little girlier
than usual for no apparent reason. I mean, don’t most of us? It’s like playing
dress-up in our mom’s clothes when we were younger except now we have the
liberty of dressing up or down as much as we’d like in our own clothes. The
vibrant forest green of this H&M blazer completely caught my attention. Not
only because it was the only one laying around (and $10 at that), but also
because I needed a bold blazer in my wardrobe. The color of the blazer let me
play around with different color palettes and patterns, and can spice up any
plain outfit. I wanted to pair it with this vintage Gap boys’ button-down
(which I fortunately found laying in my brother’s hand-me-downs) since the
light blue stripes contrasted the bright green blazer very nicely. The black
skater skirt toned down the bold colors and added a classy feel to the entire
outfit. But it didn’t feel complete without some jewelry so why not add a
statement necklace? And of course, I needed the outfit to reflect me more so I
chose my trusty gold chain (stolen from my mom’s closet). It toughens the
girly, classy look just a little and adds a bit of yellow to pull the cool
green and blue in the outfit. Still haven’t found an occasion nice enough to
adorn this outfit but I can see myself strutting in NYC on a Sunday afternoon
if I really wanted to (or if my heels allowed me to). After all, what better
place to dress up and try different styles than in the fashion city of America
itself.
And before I forget, these beautiful photos were taken by
the talented and creative Ms. Stephanie Wang, photographer of Stephanie Wang Photography (click and like her Facebook page!) and recently joined Mochi
Magazine as a contributing photographer! If you don’t already know, she was one of the main drivers of this
blog, supporting me and guiding me through the process. I couldn’t thank her
enough for always helping me out when I need despite her high-demanding status.
Cheers,
Mai Sunshine
Style Tip: Don’t be afraid to mix colors and patterns in an
outfit. It not only brightens it up but also creates colorful dimensions. So
don’t be afraid of bold colors because you can definitely play it up in any
outfit.
