HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Does anyone else get as excited about the fall season as much as I do? I love all things fall: the changing colors, the clothing styles, the all-things-pumpkin, the costumes, the Thanksgiving season, the introduction to the holiday season, the seasonal aromas, etc. If you don't already know, I tend to gravitate towards neutral tones and this season gives me the proper excuse to adorn neutrals to its max. But that doesn't mean we have to store away our summer clothes! You'll be surprised how much you depend on some of your summer pieces. If you haven't read it already, I've written a post on Sarah Jaihee Lee's blog here where I explain the simple tricks to transition your summer clothes into the fall season.

I didn't want to part with my maxi skirts just yet so I incorporated them into my fall wardrobe as best I could. The trick is to layer leggings or stockings underneath for extra warmth. Here, I wore my pleated navy polka dotted maxi skirt with a cream tie blouse. And I liked that the skirt stopped at my ankles so it wasn't too overwhelming. Navy and cream are perfect complements and the tie and pleats added simple details to add texture. But because both pieces are loose and big, it's easy to get lost in its bagginess. That's why I wore a skinny cheetah print belt to keep my waist shape and add extra details. The leather jacket toughened up the look more while contrasting the fit of the flowy bottom. Because the navy and black are close in color, the cream blouse breaks up the dark colors.

Layers, layers, layers is the trick to fall clothing. I like to wear camis underneath my tops to add an extra layer and like I said before, leggings and stockings does warmth wonders.

Happy Halloween,
Mai Sunshine

Style Tip: Balance out the shape of the outfit and colors by adding a form-fitting jacket on top and wearing contrasting colors. And with maxi skirt that stop at the ankles, wear flats so you don't overwhelm the outfit with heavy boots or shoes.
